Gingerbread Cookies

Ingredients

  • 150 ml  Golden syrup
  • 1/3 cup  Dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup  Water
  • 1/3 cup  Butter, softened
  • 3 1/4 cup  Plain flour
  • 1 tsp  Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp  Ground all spice
  • 1 tsp  Ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp  Ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp  Ground cinnamon
  • For dusting  Icing sugar
  •   Betty crocker Icing

Directions

In a bowl, mix together the golden syrup, brown sugar, water and butter until smooth.
Combine the flour, baking soda, allspice, ginger, cloves and cinnamon. Stir them into the wet mixture until all the ingredients are fully combined.

Cover the dough and chill for at least 3 hours upto 24 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness.

Cut out into desired shapes. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto ungreased cookie sheets so that when they rise in the evening they don’t stick together.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove from the cookie sheets to cool on wire racks.

Decorate with icing.

I was looking for a gingerbread cookie recipe. This is a good recipe. I see molasses has been substituted well. Also I liked the betty crocker icing can. Nothing spells Christmas better than these lovely cookies in different shapes.
